Doctor Web released an update for software components of its Dr.Web anti-virus products for Windows.

The update makes the solutions compatible with Windows 7 and provides several fixes and improvements. The scanner:

  • a new object access subsystem for the anti-rootkit module (detection of malicious programs that intercept system functions to hide their presence in a system) that doesn’t use features of an OS and can't be blocked by a rootkit;
  • the autorun scan now also can check and restore a modified HOSTS file (malicious programs often alter contents of the file to direct a user to bogus web-sites or block access to web resources of anti-virus vendors);
  • Improved compatibility with virtual machines;
  • A fix of an error when the scanner froze while checking removable IDE/SCSI disks;
  • A fix of an error that made the scanner freeze when it was launched using the context menu;

The mail and web traffic interception module used by SpIDer Mail and SpIDer Gate:

  • A fix of memory leaks issue
  • Compatibility with Safari.

The anti-virus engine memory leak issues have been corrected and self-protection of the anti-virus has been improved.

No actions is required on the part of users of Dr.Web Security Space, Dr.Web anti-virus for Windows, Dr.Web for Windows Servers and subscribers to the Dr.Web anti-virus service to update their anti-viruses. The update will be downloaded and installed automatically This update is not available for distributions for Win9x/NT4.
