I would recommend to try it first. Download Security Space Pro, you will be able to obtain a demo license for a month, probably you will like it! :(

But be aware, it asks a lot of questions in the beginning, but it's easy to set up it fast for your machine.
Here is a French video how to do it

Hello,

I have a good news for you, there are french video tutorials for dr.web firewall you can check Understanding Dr.web Firewall.

Using firewall is great idea because you have a great security whole without it.

I recommend you to use dr.web firewall, You could face some conflicts with other firewall softwares.

Also i just made a firewall leak test and trojan test for you a few minutes ago please see screenshots. Firewall tests are other title to talk about much like antivirus tests but simply dr.web is stealth internet threats by default with this test results. Also another point i like with dr.web firewall is it is written from zero, it is dr.web's origianl code, it is pure dr.web.

Also you can ask any question related dr.web firewall we would be glad to help you. :(

Hi Drumut

Were you behind a router for the tests?

Hello,

I only asked because if you were behind a router, you are not testing out the software firewall in Dr Web but the router's inbuilt firewall.

Further with the Firewall, if I select either the the first predefined choice (allow network connection for application on port x") or the custom rule, I am finding that it does not remember my choice for new outbound connections. Only if I selected "allow all network selection " on the predefined rules will it remember my choice. Therefore is the firewall still buggy?

Hello,

I only asked because if you were behind a router, you are not testing out the software firewall in Dr Web but the router's inbuilt firewall.

Correct. :( However i tried with these combinations at home. You would like to see results.

Router's Firewall Enabled + Dr.Web Firewal Disabled = Stealth
Router's Firewall Disabled + Dr.Web Firewal Disabled = Closed
Router's Firewall Disabled + Dr.Web Firewall Enabled with Interactive Mode = Closed
Router's Firewall Disabled + Dr.Web Firewall Enabled with Restricted Access Mode = Stealth

Interactive Mode

In this mode, you have total control over Dr.Web Firewall reaction on unknown connection detection, thus training the program while you working on computer.

When a user application or operating system attempts to connect to a network, Dr.Web Firewall checks if there is a filtering rule set for the application. If there are no filtering rules, Dr.Web Firewall prompts you to select a temporary solution, or create a rule which will be applied each time Dr.Web Firewall detects this type of connection.

This mode is used by default.

Restricted Access Mode

In this mode, Dr.Web Firewall blocks all unknown connections to network resources including the Internet automatically.

When a user application or operating system attempts to connect to a network, Dr.Web Firewall checks if there is a filtering ruleset for the application. If there are no filtering rules, Dr.Web Firewall blocks network access for the application without displaying any notification to the user. If there are filtering rules for the application, Dr.Web Firewall processes the connection according to the specified actions.

By default, Dr.Web Firewall operates in learning mode or Interactive Mode. Personally i use Restricted Access Mode expacially on money related sites like banks etc...

I would be very happy if you have any other questions about dr.web firewall, you may think to open another thread.

I am not sure if your problem is about parent processes but still i would like to inform you. Parent process is a process which starts an aplication to connect internet. For instance i run x application and i want x application to connect internet via firefox. X Application is the main and Firefox is the parent process. Dr.Web Firewall asks me if i want x application to connect internet via firefox. If i choose allow once, even after you close x application it will continue to ask you when you open a new tab with firefox if you don't close firefox with x application. As i said this is another point but info won't hurt

I can't say it is still buggy, of course there could be bugs, this is nature of softwares but currently it runs very well on my systems (4 laptops). If your application insist to connect internet firewall will give you this warning again and again, please consider this too.

Thanks for taking time to carry out the firewall tests, Drumut.

I still think the firewall is buggy in that it is not remembering my selections when I am provided with a choice of applying rules and it's not due to parent processes.

I may switch to restricted access mode and see whether that it any better.

If I find the inbuilt firewall unreliable it is not important as I have LookNStop and Comodo in reserve.

Anytime

Please consider to report this to our bug tracker if you really think this is a bug.

it's not due to parent processes.

I knew it, i just want you to know more about dr.web firewall :(

I can say that if you use restricted access mode you wouldn't see those windows. Because if it is not in application rule dr.web will block it. So if your softwares don't connect to internet when you use restricted access mode please add their rules to dr.web firewall manually, that is the way i do.

I have LookNStop and Comodo in reserve.

If you use L'n'S then you are familiar with packet filters for instance Phantom's. You can look at L'n'S packet filters and if you find some of them usefull you can import them to dr.web firewall manually.

Good Luck!
