That's strange. :( Try to start scanning without -fm.

Tried it and its scanning away quite happily now. Although everything seems to be 'unknown file type, skipped'. I'm really hoping it will find some viruses cos if it doesn't I'll have no idea what's wrong with my PC. It's still on too!

and now its finished. only took 20minutes or so. The end of it says 'line 10: 6829 killed' could you tell me what that means? Is that how many viruses or potential viruses it found?

Can you provide scanner's log or show screenshot?

I've closed it down now.. is it possible to get the log back if I go back into the program?

If you did not reboot your PC look into /opt/drweb/logs/ folder.

Apologies, I turned the pc off after that scan and I'm struggling to find that file path now. Should I be looking in windows?

It doesn't seem like it. Still takes a good 10-15 minutes to boot up and then actually be ready to use and is still very slow doing basic tasks (especially things like opening IE).

But, I suppose without showing you guys a log or something it's difficult to actually know.

It looks like I'll have to pay out and give it to someone to give it a proper going over... Unless you guys have any more ideas?

PS - I should add, it's 4-5 years old and has a poor 256MB of RAM, but it has only just started being so slow. Well, since I installed a wireless network adapter and Sky Broadband to be more precise.

I would like to upgrade the RAM but don't want to do that until whatever the problem is, is fixed.

Thanks again for all your help.

Run Dr.Web CureIt! to scan your computer and cure it. :(

Run CureIt as suggested but I have to say that 256MB of RAM is a significant part of your problem. When you installed your wireless adapter that would have further reduced the memory available for Windows and programs you run as the adapter requitres a certain amount of dedicated memory and the driver would also require some memory. Do you ever defrag your hard drive? That's also something for you to look at.

Hi, thanks I will try Cure It.

Baron - I know you're absolutely right about the RAM issue (thats why it was cheap 6 years ago)! It just seems odd it has suddenly slowed down and it seemed to start happening perhaps a week after I installed the adapter. If my memory serves me correctly anyways...

Also, perhaps been slightly distracted by the fact my facebook account seemed to have been infiltrated one way or another (my account messaged about 100 of my friends urging them to sign up to a weight loss website...). I know that could be completely unrelated but the timing seemed a very strong coincidence.

Anyways, I will try that and let you guys know.

Cheers again

Hi Andy,

As well as defragging your hard drive you could also check that you have a reasonable amount of free space on the drive as the system will be sluggish if you have a full disk. If you have less than 25% free space then you should be thinking of a larger drive.

You should download ccleaner which is freeware and it will get rid of any temporary files hogging your PC and you can also use it to clean the system registry as that can be a source of slowdown. You can download it from here: http://www.ccleaner.com/

If you are thinking of defragging your drive, run ccleaner first to get rid of rubbish and the defrag will be quicker and more efficient.

Good luck!

Baron

Hi,

I defragged the system about a fortnight ago, but will run ccleaner and try it again.

I did use a program recommended called... ATP Cleaner I think? (I'm at work so can't check). Thank you again, hopefully things will be a bit better by tonight!
