the GUI asks for an user to log in to change the settings, but I am only an user with SUDO rights, i could add me to the ROOT group possibly, but I am not sure if this would make installation of applications unsecure or not.
What are your advices?
Great powers bring great responsibility.
SUDO is already a very bad habit
Having administrator privileges removes any safety net.
Even if the software is started by the superuser (for example, with the su or sudo commands), it is not given elevated privileges by default.
To assign super-user privileges to the software, you need to authenticate by specifying the name (login) and password of a user whose account is included in the Dr.Web for Linux user group as a group of administrators or the super-user login and password (root account) and click on OK. To cancel the privilege increase, close the window by clicking Cancel. If you click the Help button, a short text describing how to authenticate is displayed. To hide the text, click the button again.
During the installation of Dr.Web for Linux, a group of users who can elevate their rights to superuser privileges (for example, the sudo group) is chosen as the administrators group. If the attempt to search for this group fails, you can enter the super-user (root) login and password in the authentication window to elevate the software rights.
