Can you post a little more information on the Mac client? Such as; is it based on the version 5 engine? is it cocoa native, etc...

would gladly test it if i knew just a tad more about it.

Hey Pavel,

the GUI looks much like the Alphas/Pre-Betas of windows V5, yet the V5 beta we got for windows was the same GUI as 4.44, same scanner GUI, same settings etc etc.

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=206518

now, while i wasnt allowed to post further screenshots, i used it myself, and the images of the MAC OSX beta, look very much like the early versions i tested, except with the 'mac-look'

are OSX users going to get the GUI i 'thought' we was going to get, as its already in their beta?

if so.... us windows users are getting shafted with the current V5 release.

Happy Holidays.

I know what you mean. While normally a .1 release doesn't contain a huge change I am hoping that 5.1 will incorporate the new GUI, err, the GUI that could have been.

If OSX users are getting this GUI, I want it in the windows version.

Let's face it, every drweb user uses windows, so why we being denied this?

.... It really bugs me!

Hello!

As the lead developer of the front end of the Control Center for Mac OS X I would like to reply to questions regarding the product.

We wanted to develop a product that
  • is easy to use for everyone, yet flexible and feature rich enough to satisfy an advanced user
  • doesn't hog the system while providing a high level of security
  • is appealing and user-friendly

Essentially the product is a highly tunable on demand antivirus scanner currently based on the latest of the 4 series engine (although the solution is completely engine independent and the product may be shipped with the 5 series enginе in the release version).
In the backend it has a command line scanner (the same one shipped with Unix line of Dr.Web products) and an updater, which can be launched through the GUI frontend, manually or scheduled to launch automatically (default). The command line scanner can be used on its own as well.
The frontend of the Control Center is a Cocoa Application which handles all the work aside from file scanning. As the product is targeted both at novice and advanced users it has a lot of various settings which makes it flexible and powerful and also it doesn't require any kind of configuration to be fully usable and useful. In the release version we are going to make the product scriptable via AppleScript.
If you have any more questions, please ask! I will be very glad to answer them!

I love the fact that it will be scriptable via AppleScript. I am really looking forward to this.

1 other question: If you have windows (an NTFS partition) dual booting against OSX will the command line scanner also be able to read/scan the NTFS partition? This would be incredibly helpful for those who have a windows install that is all messed up that it could be cleaned from OSX.

A few questions:

A)Will it detected Mac and Windows threats?
B)Will it be a commercial version or freeware?

Thanks, would be nice if there were some freeware that detects mac-only threats.
