Yes, in the System event log, there are red error indicators related to System Control Manager. The note attached to each of these errors says that SpiderGuard File System Monitor service failed to start because it is disabled or has no devices associated with it. I don't see anything in the Application events.

By the way, I figured out how to save the RkU log as a text file, in case that helps.

Disable Self-protection and press "Run". Make a screenshot what will happen. Change Run type to "Auto", press "Apply" and make a screenshot too.

that's not a good idea to have installed 2 real time monitors. I suggest you should remove Avira's one.

I'm not sure if I got to the place you were directing me to. When I right-click on My Computer, no option says "Control." Later on, there was no "Run" option, so I assumed I should press the "Start Service" option. Here are the screenshots. Screen1 is self-explanatory. Screen2 I wanted to include, because it indicates that SpiderGuard for Windows cannot run because it depends on SpiderGuard File System Monitor (which I guess is also not functioning). Screen3 shows what happens when the service is set to automatic and I tell it to start the service. That is my original problem. If these are not the right screenshots, please let me know.

I'm confused! AVIRA was installed on this laptop, but was uninstalled. Was this file still monitoring real-time, even though the program was removed?

I'm afraid it wasn't, could you find that file on a disk? I suppose there is an reference to this driver in the registry, isn't there?

I deleted this specific file after I got this post--it was still on my computer, even though AVIRA was not.
Could this be the cause of the problem with Dr. Web? Should I try to uninstall, then re-install Dr. Web now that the AVIRA driver has been deleted?

I've disabled system restore; the file was deleted; I rebooted and did another search for it. It's not on my computer.
But, I don't know how to check the registry for this. How do I do that?

Do you mean run "net start spider" and run "net start spidernt"? If so, when I try that, I get the same error messages: failed to start because of dependency issue.
