Before we begin let's look at what we check? What is md5 and md5sum?
What is md5?
In cryptography, MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) is a widely used cryptographic hash function with a 128-bit hash value. MD5 has been employed in a wide variety of security applications, and is also commonly used to check the integrity of files

What is md5sum?
The MD5 hash (or checksum) functions as a compact digital fingerprint of a file. It is extremely unlikely that any two non-identical files existing in the real world will have the same MD5 hash (although as with all such hashing algorithms, there are an unlimited number of files that will have any given MD5 hash).

There are a lot of applications which are programed to check md5sum of given files. You can find them by googling. But i would recommend some of them for you before we begin. These applications have other abilities like checking SHA1, CRC32, RIPEMD, SFV files besides MD5 files, but i wouldn't explain them here. Let's concantrete on our main subject which is md5sum.
I think these would be enough. Please choose one of them and you can check md5sum of files. I prefer to use hashcheck , now we are going to check dr.web live cd's md5sum.
- Please put dr.web live cd image (*.iso) and md5sum file in same folder.
- if you installed hashcheck, it will associate itself with md5 files, you just need to double click on dr.web's md5sum file to begin verification.
- HashCheck main screen will be opened and it will start to check your file. if verification is successfull you will see MATCH, if it is a failure you will see MiSMATCH under the status bar of hashcheck.
Good Luck!
