Hello, everyone.

I just set up my new computer a couple of days ago. I installed Dr.Web Security Space on it, and so far, except for one small issue, I am very happy with it.

On my previous computer, I couldn't use Dr.Web because my computer was older, not very fast, and Dr.Web slowed it down too much. However, I did have LinkChecker installed for my browser, and I really liked it.

On my new computer, when I installed Dr.Web Security Space, I figured that LinkChecker came with it as one of the suite's features, so I never installed LinkChecker for my browser like I did on my old computer. But later, after familiarizing myself with the settings and options of the program, I discovered that LinkChecker was not a feature of Dr.Web Security Space. I wish it was, though. I really miss having it.

A couple of questions . . .

1.) I am very tempted to try installing LinkChecker on my new computer, but I am concerned that it may possibly conflict or interfere with some of the Dr.Web Security Space features. Is that a possibility? Does anyone know for sure whether or not LinkChecker can be used on a computer that already has Dr.Web Security Space installed and running? Would there be any possible issues in doing so?

2.) I wonder why LinkChecker is not included in Dr.Web Security Space. It would be really nice if it was. Does anyone happen to know why it is not included?

Thanks.

1. LinkChecker and Dr.Web SS (or other AV solution) may coexist without any problems. LinkChecker just blocks ads and allows you to check links by sending them to Dr.Web's servers. Checker doesn't interfere with AV products.

2. If you've Dr.Web SS installed (and SpiderGate switched ON), your traffic is checked "on the fly". So, you don't need LC too much... If you really do - you can install it anytime...

You said, "Checker doesn't interfere with AV products."

I know that. I should have been more specific regarding my question. Specifically, I was concerned about the possibility of LinkChecker interfering in some way with SpIDer Gate. Any chance or possibility of that?

My understanding is that LinkChecker is basically on on-demand version of SpIDer Gate. So, because of that, my thinking goes, having two of the same things might cause problems. That's the basis for my concern. Is my thinking wrong?

No. LC and SG - two different products, working two different ways. LC doesn't intercept and check all your traffic (except ads rejection), but SG does. LC doesn't install any drivers into your OS, but SG does. Therefore you may use LC with any AV products.

Thanks for the additional info. I appreciate it.

Earlier, I asked why LinkChecker is not included in Dr.Web Security Space among its other features. Your answer was that, basically, with the SpIDer Gate component enabled, LinkChecker is not really needed.

That was good enough for me, and I didn't give it any more thought until I went to the Dr.Web website to install LinkChecker and saw the following statement at the bottom of the page.

"Dr.Web LinkCheckers extensions are part of the Dr.Web distribution."

What does that mean, i.e., that LinkCheckers are "part of the Dr.Web distribution"? Any idea? To me, it sounds like it is saying the LinkChecker feature is included (or is supposed to be included) in the feature list of Dr.Web products.

Actually, it sounds strange. I've never seen before! OK... I've downloaded "fresh" copy of Dr.Web SS and installing it right now. Wait... So, there are no components which look like "LinkChecker"... Thus, at the moment this component is not included in the distribution. Probably it will be included later.

I'm currently using Security Space with a trial license. As soon as it runs out, I'm going to purchase one, but at the moment, with only a trial license, I'm not able to submit a support ticket to get an official reply regarding what that means. Can you do so?

AFAIR, it was included earlier.

I think I figured it out! :)

I'll post what I found out so others can comment, and if the information is accurate, it will be good to have for future reference in case this question ever comes up again.

According to the information on this page here http://products.drweb.com/8/?lng=en, under the heading of Other Changes, it says, "Dr.Web LinkChecker has been removed from the distribution because most popular browsers only install plugins from approved sites." See screenshot below.

I realize the above statement is in reference to version 8.0, but most likely, the same reason carried over into future versions as well, thus the reason for LinkChecker not being included in version 10.

Now, if that is indeed the reason, then I guess one question remains. That is, what does it mean where it says "most popular browsers only install plugins from approved sites" Why would Dr.Web not be considered an approved site?
