Hello,

I am a new user of Dr. Web products. So far I am very, very impressed. I am trying to spread the word among my friends of how effective Dr, Web products are in the preventing and cleaning of malware.

I am, at the same time, trying to learn as much as I can about the products. I am hoping that this forum can help.

My first few questions are below. . . .

1.) What exactly is the Dr. Web AV-Desk service? I do not understand what it is or what it does. Please explain.

2.) What is the difference between CureIt! and CureNet!?

3.) What is the Dr. Web Enterprise Security Suite?

4.) Do any of the Dr. Web developers or company representatives ever read or respond to questions in this forum, or is all of the help provided by non-company volunteers?

Thank you very much! Looking forward to your answers.

Read and sometimes respond :D. But most of the answers are given by the volunteers, yes.

Hello, Sergey.

I see that you are from the Dr. Web staff. It's nice to know that company representatives actually do visit and read the forums (and sometimes respond, too). :)

I'm glad you're here because I have a question that I was hoping somebody from the company could answer for me.

How come, on the English forum, so much of the writing is still in Russian? When I tried signing up for the forum, I had to copy and paste the directions into a translator to see what they said. Even as I'm using the forum now, I have to copy and the paste the links into a translator to see what they say; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to read the instructions and use the forum.

This, I'm sure, scares away many potential customers who might be considering using Dr. Web products. Most people aren't as motivated as I am to use and learn about the products when there are so many other choices out there.

Errr, it'd surprise you but we experience just the same problem with Russian part of the forum - there are quite a few of the things are in English. :D

Actually we've updated the forum recently and all this is because of it. I hope they'll settle everything down soon. Anyway thanks for your message, I'll pass it to our guys who maintain the forum.

Thank you so much for pointing that out! I never even saw that — probably because it was in Russian, and I had no idea what it said. :D Everything is so much better now, though!

Sergey,

I'm glad you guys don't design security products as "good" as you design forums. LOL. (I hope you think that's as funny as I do.)

Seriously, though, the forum does need a lot of work. I don't know how other companies do it — because I know absolutely nothing about web design, or anything like that, but if an English-speaking person were to go to another company's website or forum, like IObit's, for example, nobody would ever have any idea that they were dealing with a Chinese company. Everything automatically comes up in English — and English only. Most people would never even realize that they were dealing with a foreign company. (And I'm sure that's how IObit likes it.)

Another example: I'm from the United States. If I go to AVG's site (or any company's site, for that matter) all I see is the English version of their site. If I didn't know any better, I would have no idea whatsoever that I was dealing with a foreign company. And this is a good thing — for both parties.

It's that way with pretty much all companies. I don't know how it works, but I'm guessing their sites can detect where the incoming IP addresses are coming from and bring up the appropriate version of their site for that person's country.

Dr. Web needs to implement something like that for its websites and forums. An auto-detect feature, I guess it would be called.

I really hope you pass this along to whoever is in charge of the website. Dr. Web is the best anti-virus software that I've ever used, and I would love to see it get more popular in my country (the United States).

I just know, though, that many people will get "turned off" when they go to your website and see most of it written in a foreign language. That has a tendency to scare people away.

I didn't scare me away (or anything like that), but then again, I know how good the product is — so I was highly motivated to try and figure it out. Not everyone is so motivated, though.

The worst part was when I specifically went to the English forum and found most of it, including the directions, to still be written in Russian. If it wasn't for the other poster who helped me by pointing out the link to turn on the English, I'd still be lost.

The most important thing your page developers need to be aware of is if someone is coming to the forum who speaks English, they won't recognize the directions (which are in Russian) to switch the language over to English. I think they dropped the ball on that one. A lot of customers, I'm afraid, might get frustrated and just go away. I don't want to see that happen because I would like to see more people use your products.

Anyway, I'm not being negative at all. I hope you don't take it that way. I think your products are great, and I just want to give some constructive input that I think will help. That's all. Again, please pass my input along.

Thanks for reading. And thanks for making such great products.

SergM,

Thanks for all of the links. I just finally got around to reviewing them.

I'd like to run my understanding of the products by you, so that you can tell me if I correctly understand what they are.

1.) From the looks of it, Dr. Web AV-Desk Service appears to be something that is used by Internet service providers for their customers, etc. It does not appear to be something for consumer use. Is this correct?

2.) Dr. Web CureIt! appears to be a free, on-demand scanner for home PC use. Is this correct? If not, please explain what it is.

Dr. Web CureNet!, on the other hand, appears to be for networks, not for home single-PC use. It looks something like a second-opinion scanner, of some sort (if I'm not mistaken in my reading of its description). In any case, as a home single-PC user, it's nothing I need to concern myself with, right?

3.) And Dr. Web Enterprise Security Suite appears to be something for businesses. Again, nothing to concern myself with as a home PC user, correct?

I'm sorry, but I don't fully understand the above comment. I don't doubt anything, though. I was just confirming. :)

By the way, is there a paid-version of Dr. Web CureIt! for home PC use, or is there just the free version?

CureIt! It's free for home use.
You just have to fill out a form in which state that you will use CureIt! specifically for home use.
If you do not want it, there is an alternative

Thanks.

I'm currently using Dr. Web Anti-Virus. I love it!

I don't think I would ever need to use CureIt! since I have Dr. Web Anti-Virus. I was just asking on the behalf of some friends of mine.

As I understand it, CureIt! is basically the same thing as Dr. Web Anti-Virus — without the full-time protection. Correct?

I clicked on the above link and opened it. What is it? I don't understand what those things are. Can you please explain.

Dr.Web CureIt! will cure a system, but it's not meant to maintain constant anti-virus security. The utility available at our web site always features the latest virus definitions, but it will not update virus databases on its own. The virus definitions used by Dr.Web CureIt! apply until we update our virus databases once again (Dr.Web virus databases are updated at least once hourly).

On the comment on Russian appearing on Web pages. I use Yandex browser and that has a lot of Russian language on it even though I hit the " English" button many sites it shows are in Russian and webpages assume you are Russian because you use it.so they display Russian.. Its only if I use say Google/Yahoo etc that its all in English although I hardly use them as they are not as secure as Yandex..
